Ten Attitudes Of Top-Achievers

November 27, 2007 · Leave a Comment

If you think the same way as the top achievers think, you can begin to get the same results they do. Here are
ten psychological and practical ways to mirror the attitudes of top-achievers.

See yourself as a consultant rather than a salesperson.

Believe that you are a problem-solver with regard to your product and how the client can best use it.

Become a doctor of selling. Act in the best interests of your “patients” and have a high code of ethics.

See yourself as the president of your own sales corporation. Accept 100 percent responsibility for your results.

Commit yourself to being the best in your field. Dedicate yourself to lifelong learning.

Be ambitious, hungry, and determined to use selling as a stepping-stone to the success you want in life.

Have integrity. Be honest with yourself and others. Engage in thorough preparation prior to every call.

Be an excellent listener; be extremely customer-focused. Have tremendous courage. Be willing to face your fears of

rejection and failure, and overcome them.

Be highly persistent. Start your workday earlier, work harder,  and stay longer.

To make these changes work you must walk, talk, and behave consistently with them every hour of every day.

How does love flow?

November 23, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Some years back I was helping my relative to manage/run a retail shop. Every morning, I take the cash collected the day before to the bank.

I pass this building where a woman sits outside. She has been sitting there for at least the past 5 months.

She looked about 50 in age, but fit & strong.  She begs for money,as she smokes away.

I hate hearing  her same old stories about how her husband gambled all the money and her son who is ill now.
From the way she gazes out of the corner of her eyes, I know she must be cheating. She must be collecting all this money to gamble, for drugs, drink, etc.

I told myself, ‘NEVER give to someone like her.

One Sunday, my Tibetan Master was in town.

After a  session with him I told him about this woman’s story and my decision to not give her anything.

My master asked me the following questions:
1. What is my FIRST thought when I think of giving?

2. How am I so sure that she will gamble, drink or take drugs?

3. How do I know that her story about her husband and son is not real?

4. How do I know that she is healthy and strong enough to work?

… and more.

The next morning I went to look for her, but she was not there; her first absence  in 5 months!

“Was she arrested for cheating?…involved in an  accident?…her son passed away?…”
Such negative thoughts rushed through my mind.

She didn’t appear for the next 5 weeks!

I waited, waited, and waited… I asked  people working there about her; no one seemed to know her whereabouts or what’s become of her.
Then most unexpectedly on the 6th week, there she was, sitting at the same spot in the same way as if time had not elapsed,
begging  as she repeated the same sad stories.

I rushed forward to give her some money and  chatted with her.

I begin to understand more about what happen to her family.

From the corner of my eyes, I can see many people walking by with a look…
a look that seems so familiar,  for I too had once done the same.

ARE YOU WAITING FOR ONE OF LIFE’S LETHAL SNOWBALLS?

November 17, 2007 · Leave a Comment

ACCOUNTABILITY = POWER TO CHANGEA Guru lectured the same sermon for 6 weeks consecutively. By the fifth week a special group gathered to challenge the Guru about his irritating repetitions. He replied “I’m glad you finally acknowledged it! I’m going to keep on preaching the same sermon every week until you get it!” Sometimes we simply choose to ignore life’s important messages, yet we wonder why the same events “keep happening to us” – “why me?”

“That which you resist, persists.” ~ The harder we fight or avoid it, the stronger it comes back to us. Problems are presented to us as a gift, and rather than attacking the “lessons” or avoiding the “relentless reminders”, we should pause. Embrace the “knocking” and be willing to explore the learning. By cutting through our barricade of resistance, we dig into what is on the other side ~ an awaiting gift to our greatest growth.

Escaping Accountability is probably one of the greatest causes of our problems. Being at cause (accountable) means claiming our birthright to using the inherent inner resources to improve our lives. Accountability empowers you with the choice to take charge of your feelings, thoughts and actions, regardless of what other people’s actions are, to truly experience life at a more meaningful level.

Avoiding accountability happens consciously or unconsciously. By not making a decision about something is a choice in itself. Listed below are some of our convenient ‘defences’, which I call the ‘10 Lethal Snowballs.’ If we fight or avoid it long enough, it will give us a rude awakening in life.

How Many Of These Can You Identify With:

1. “I Don’t Know.” Do you really don’t know or are you simply avoiding something?

2. “I Had No Choice.” Can one have their own choice in life without owning the consequences?

3. “I’ll Try.” “I’ll try to make it.” “I’ll try to give you by tomorrow.” Do you try or do you just do it?

4. “I Had No Control.” Do you have full control of your emotional buttons or can other people ‘remote control’ you?

5. “If …..Then….” “If he does X then I’ll do Y.” Do you put conditions between yourself and your goals?

6. “It’s Not My Fault!” Can we be accountable for other people’s mishaps? What would happen if we do make it our business?

7. “It’s Not My Job.” Are you putting boundaries on your responsibilities so that you could stay within your comfort zone?

8. “I Can’t” Are you saying you can’t when you actually mean you won’t?

9. “That’s Just The Way I Am.” Are we doing the same thing everyday yet hoping to get  different results?

10. “I’ll Wait & See.” Do we get totally involved in life to get what we want or are we waiting for others to do their part first?

Are YOU don’t use any of the above ‘defences’ ?

The Lost Art of Thinking

November 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Auguste Rodin’s classic statue “The Thinker” is one of my favorites. It’s hard to look at it (or one of its many replicas) without being moved by it. The innocent display of someone deeply in thought causes most of us to ponder a bit ourselves. Why is this image so captivating? What’s he thinking about?

Perhaps we have such reverence for this kind of deep thinking because it’s so uncommon. Having thoughts does not constitute thinking. We all have thoughts. We all have opinions and beliefs-usually lots of them.

William James once wrote, “A great many people think they are thinking when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.” Just because there’s mental activity going on in our minds doesn’t mean we’re thinking.

Bob Proctor, in his book You Were Born Rich, writes, “Thinking is the highest function of which a human being is capable.” He goes on to say that what passes for thinking for most people is really just the faculty of memory-playing old movies and rehashing past events. Clearly, this is not what Rodin’s great work of art depicts.

Thinking is hard work. Maybe that’s why so few people do it. Edison went even further: “There is no expedient to which a man will go to avoid the real labor of thinking,” and Emerson, “What is the hardest task in the world? To think.”

Why don’t we think more? I believe one reason is that we’re so busy doing that we don’t have time to conceive, cogitate and consider. We’re used to being entertained. We’re bombarded with information. It comes at us so fast that we have little time to reflect on much of it, if any at all.

From TV commentators to politicians, we’re told what to think when what we really need to know is how to think. We’ve become accustomed to quick answers and easy solutions. But the problems and challenges of our lives are not easy and they’re not simple. They require thoughtful consideration.

I love to read. But I’m convinced that the greatest value in reading is not the information, but rather what we think about while we read (that’s why what we choose to read is so important).

The objective is not to fill our minds with information, but to stimulate our mind to think and to ponder. The value of the book is increased a thousand fold if we lay it down occasionally and contemplate what we’ve read and think about what it means and how and why it might apply to us.

Clarity is power. And clarity comes from thinking.

We need to think, and think carefully about the choices and direction of our lives. The most precious resource we have is our time. Our lives are the sum total of what we do with that time. Isn’t it worth spending more of it thinking?

Think about it.cheers, BobbyWan

This Is Your Personal “Tune Up”

November 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Every working thing, at some point needs to be tweaked, adjusted or altered to improve performance. After a while without attention the system starts to play up.Take your own car for example. Every 5000 klms it’s recommended you do a basic tune and every 10,000 klms a major adjustment.

This does two things:

i)         To repair any small problem that can become major
ii)        To prevent anything adverse from happening and maintain good running order of your vehicle.

Herein lies the biggest advantage to tuning up; PREVENTION.

Our body and mind are important parts of our make-up. In our day to day runnings we continue to ask substantially of ourselves mentally and emotionally.

You may be oblivious to this as you (sub-consciously) tick over like a machine. Eventually the machine needs to be turned off, cooled down and allowed to rest to get its nutrition and maintenance.

We need to keep our mind in top condition and optimize our performance. So – read widely and educate yourself on your area of interest (and expertise) making sure you seek out differing points of view from various authors to give you a more encompassing overview of your topic of interest. This keeps you sharp and alert as well as more in control of your direction.

You are really nourishing your mind here with quality information.

Don’t over do it. Over doing it is a surefire recipe for disaster (just like doing nothing). Everything in moderation.

Absolutely everything. You’ll know if and when you are over doing it as you’ll be pushing yourself to a level where it becomes a chore rather than fun.

It is only prudent to enjoy what you do unconditionally. If you do it will seldom become a chore; and pushing yourself could simply be equated to playing another round of golf or a set of tennis (assuming you enjoy either).

Breaking your routine is virtually mandatory. There are very few people who can simply survive on raw energy continuously. Even if you are one who can, your performance will gradually decline after an extended period.

Breaking your routine comprises; but by no means exhausts all possibilities:

i)         Mixing with different people
ii)        Traveling another way to work
iii)       Trying out new sports and/or social activities
iv)       Incorporate newness into your family and professional Lives

Your tune up will cleanse you and wash away the stress that slowly accumulates over a period of time. Stress delivers the message to you that a grease and oil change and a tune up are required. If you are very stressed then a re-building of your engine may prove to be more than worthwhile.

Listen to your body and listen to your mind. If you’re not firing on all four cylinders it won’t magically repair itself!

You may need to install something like Norton System Works to watch over your system. In this case it is your own awareness to understanding your needs and how you go about executing them that will maintain your mental fitness and go, yet another, step closer to achieving your vision and goals.

After all we only get one lifetime and we owe it to ourselves to get as much as we possibly can from it. To do this we must give more than we take. Our mental fitness plays a huge roll in this and demands the respect it deserves. Tune yourself up regularly as well as maintaining your vision and determination and you will begin placing more ticks beside your goals and desires as “Undertaken & Completed”.

cheers,
BobbyWan

Where’s the $1?

November 7, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Can you tell me where is the one dollar ???Three guys in a hotel call room service and order two large pizzas. The delivery boy brings them up with a bill for exactly $30.00. Each guy  gives him a $10.00 bill, and he leaves. That’s fact!

When he hands the $30.00 to the cashier, he is told a mistake was made.

The bill was only $25.00, not $30.00.  The cashier gives the delivery boy five  $1.00 bills and tells him to take it back to the 3 guys who ordered the  pizza. That’s fact!

On the way back to their room, the delivery boy has a thought… these guys did not give him a tip. He figures that since there is no way to split $5.00 evenly three ways anyhow, he will keep two dollars for himself and give them back three dollars. OK!  So far so good! He knocks on the door and one fellow answers. He explains about a mix up in the bill, and hands the guy the three dollars, then departs with his two-dollar tip in his pocket.

Now the fun begins!

Remember $30-$25=$5 Right? $5-$3=$2 Right?

So what’s the problem?

 All is well, right?

Not quite. Answer this:

Each of the three guys originally gave $10.00 each.

They each got back $1.00 in change.

That means they paid $9.00 each, which times three is  $27.00.

The delivery boy kept $2.00 for a tip.

 $27.00 plus $2.00 equals $29.00.

Where the heck is the other dollar??????????

cheers:) BobbyWan

With Love….

November 4, 2007 · Leave a Comment

  Hatred paralyzes life;

 Love releases it.

 Hatred confuses life;

Love harmonizes it.

Hatred darkens life;

Love illumines it.

- Martin Luther King, Jr.

             With love

Put no demands on love, and love will bring you much.
Give love away, and it will be yours in greater and greater abundance.

With love, what was weak will grow strong.
With love, what was impossible becomes real.

Love can find the beauty and value in even the most desperate situation.
Love will bring hope where nothing else can.

Though love cannot be explained, it can never be denied.
Love has its own reality that transcends the most oppressive limitations.

Love elevates what it touches to a higher dimension.
When love is present, fears are calmed, wounds begin to heal, and joy is gloriously within reach.

Love, not because there is a reason, but because there is the possibility.
Love, and you will know what you cannot understand.

What u want, what u really really want…

November 2, 2007 · 1 Comment

This is quite meaningful…it really makes you think what you are doing…A banker was on the pier of a small coastal village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.  His boat was full of beautiful yellow tuna.

The banker complimented the fisherman on his catch, asking how long it took to catch. The  fisherman replied “only a short time.” The banker asked why not stay out and catch more.

The fisherman replied, “I’ve enough fish to feed my family.”

The banker then asked what did the fisherman do with the rest of his time, he replied, “I will sleep late, fish a little, play with my  children, take a siesta with my wife, stroll into the village each evening,  sip wine with my friends, play my guitar, I have a full and busy  life.”

The banker was not impressed. “I have a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds buy a bigger boat and from those increased proceeds you could buy several boats and soon have a fleet. Instead of selling your fish to a middleman, you could control production, processing and distribution by building your own cannery. You could leave this small coastal village and move to the city then to New York where you could run your expanding enterprise.”

The fisherman asked, “How long will this take?”  The  banker said, “Ten to 20 years.”

“But what then?”

“Next you would announce an IPO and sell your stock to the public, making millions and millions. Then you could retire to a small coastal village where you could sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your  wife, stroll to the village in the evenings, sip wine and play your guitar  with your friends,” said the banker smiling.

The fisherman looked puzzled, “I don’t understand this, you are suggesting that I should go one big loop so as to end up where I am today, happily fishing on the  cliff?”

Moral of the story:

Almost everyone here is constantly working to achieve

happiness. We all work hard, trying to earn more money.

What is the point of all this when we are not happy? After

all, we are forcing  ourselves to work harder just to obtain

happiness.

Are we all trying to be like the man above, going

a full circle to end up being at the same  place?

What deeply affects every aspect of a man’s experience of the

world is his perception that things could be  otherwise.

cheers,
BobbyWan
